Dr. David Hu was born and raised in New York. He attended New York University where he holds a Bachelor of Arts from the New York University College of Arts and Sciences and a medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine. Dr. Hu completed his internship and residency at the University of Miami’s Jackson Memorial Hospital where he served as Chief Resident in the Department of Psychiatry.
He is a board-certified diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN), board-certified in addiction medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM), as well as the American Board of Addiction Medicine (ABAM), and is a member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) and American Psychiatric Association (APA).
Dr. Hu has been practicing psychiatry, specializing in substance abuse disorders, and addiction medicine in a variety of settings for more than 15 years and is a Healthgrades Recognized Doctor.
His medical proficiency serves to treat a range of substance use disorders including alcoholism, nicotine dependence, and opiate/opioid addiction. He is waivered by SAMHSA’s Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT), Division of Pharmacologic Therapies (DPT) to prescribe buprenorphine for the treatment of opioid dependence. His expertise in psychopharmacology enables him to treat a wide array of mental health conditions including depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, insomnia, and PTSD.
