  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT): focused on self-acceptance, this type of therapy aims to teach individuals to make meaningful changes in their lives that help them overcome past behaviors.
  • Exposure Therapy: this type of therapy repeatedly exposes a person to stimuli associated with substance use to ease distress linked to a triggering event.
  • Habit Reversal Training: this type of therapy seeks to break the cycle of addictive behaviors, often by replacing substance abuse with a healthier habit
  • Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT): helps to train a person to manage their emotional, behavioral, or cognitive biases based on the concept that rational thinking comes internally, not from outside events.
  • Systematic Desensitization: using gradual exposure to a person’s addiction, this type of therapy aims to desensitize a person to whatever substance they were once dependent on.
